So What Else Is News?
Hosea 4:3
"Therefore shall the land
mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the
beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of
the sea also shall be taken away."
Hosea 4:6-10
6 "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.
8 They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.
9 And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.
10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the Lord."
Wait! I hope you actually took the time to read those verses instead of briefly scanning over them. (Come on, we've all been guilty of it.) If you are willing to know what is on my mind enough to read this, there it is, the key: God's word, against which all other assertions, assumptions, and ideas must be tried to discover if they have merit.
The principle purpose of this little article is to ask a question; to teach by using the Socratic Method; also to garner a deeper understanding of human thought and behavior for my own edification.
Now the very foundational question of the day, upon which so many others must be laid is this: Why, O man, do you willfully pollute yourselves, body, mind, and soul? I believe that the most of us, if we would venture to step off, for just a minute, from the train we're on ... which metaphor I give because it illustrates how we allow ourselves to be rushed through life without having to think too much about where we're going, how we're getting there, or even who is our engineer; and because we don't have to do the driving ourselves ... yes, I believe that taking a moment out to examine ourselves and our environment honestly, the most of us would admit that we know better.
I know that trying to guilt you into something is the quickest way to lose your attention, and really that isn't my purpose, but I do wish to have something of a remonstrative talk with you - gently - as a friend.
Now of the three things I mentioned which we carelessly pollute, the one I am most interested in at this moment is the mind. Pollute the mind, and what chance does one have to care for their body or soul? I think therefore that this is where the enemy strikes us first.
Now regarding pollution of the mind, let us talk about the news, as this is what has gotten me into a dither today. Why are we still turning on our televisions and putting on news stations? We know better, don't we? We all know and accept the fact that politicians lie to us, consistently; why then should we give such implicit trust to news people? Is it because we think that receiving any news, no matter how suspect, is better than receiving no news? Did the t.v. news people make you believe that there is no other credible place to receive news but from them? Are they your priesthood, your cult leaders?
Now what if I, your longtime friend, told you something contrary to what you heard on t.v. and attempted to persuade you that you had heard falsely from the news people? Would you believe me, your longtime friend in which you have often placed much trust and held high in your regard in other matters, or would you rather believe the t.v. priesthood, the characters of which you do not know?
But I can hear what one might answer: "Well how would you know better than they? They have some one on the ground, giving us coverage of the story as it unfolds. Where did you get your information?" But let us look at what this attitude assumes. It assumes that: (1) They are more honest than I; (2) They have been given correct information from someone more honest than I; (3) That there is actually a man on the ground at all. (When CNN got their first blue screen - back when the technology was brand new - they made a mistake inserting their graphic background and so the man "on the ground giving coverage" appeared to be standing in front of a blue wall. (This was actually aired.))
Trusting these people assumes further that there are no rich and powerful individuals, organizations, companies, or governments that would gladly mold public opinion to their advantage. We live in the Information Age, and who can now say that the dissemination of information is not a powerful tool and weapon? Indeed our own U.S. military devotes numerous human resources to the task of disseminating false information (supposedly only to people in other countries), they call it "psychological operations". Go look for these jobs on their recruitment career pages, you will see them.
Now lets return to asking questions - purely from a logical perspective.
Are human beings largely self-interested? Indeed we are.
If given an opportunity to some great gain, would a self-interested creature take advantage of the circumstance? Indeed they would.
Would the dissemination of information and the ability to mold public opinion be a powerful tool to a crafty creature, if they were given the opportunity to harness it? Certainly.
And is the media that enters every household (and for that matter the textbook that instructs every student) in the world an ideal resource for these things, an opportunity too game-changing to be ignored by the self-interested rich and powerful? An understatement.
Finally, is it likely that every creature which is self-interested and capable, scruple themselves to not take advantage of this opportunity? Almost as improbable as the mad speculation that the universe jumped into existence out of nothingness.
Then let us ask ourselves if we think that the stories which are broadcast are really there for our well-being? Or is it more likely that this tool (which most certainly is in the hands of unscrupulous self-interested parties) is being used to shape your mind into thinking whatever it is the wielder would like you to believe?
Are you really getting the truth with your news? Are you being made aware of anything important that is actually happening, and the facts thereof, or are your political opinions being molded?
To answer this honestly, let us look at our children and remember how we too were raised. When we are children - especially if we are home-schooled - we learn from our parents. Everything that we know is (or should be) filtered through them. In short, we get one side of every story. (I'm going to parenthetically pause for a moment to caution you not to be misled: it is a good thing to get one-sided stories from our parents so long as our parents are telling us the truth. For though we say that there are two sides to every story; we should never lose sight of the fact that only one of them can be truthful.) To continue, we grow up thinking that we like the Oldies music because our parents liked it and it was all we ever heard as children on the car radio. We didn't know anything different! We grow up thinking that our parent's sports team is the only good team to follow and cheer for, because our young minds were molded to think it so.
But sadly, that was yesterday's story; today, most parents do not raise their own children: the nanny state does this for them. And today, young minds are being molded to think that guns are bad and scarey: they're getting suspensions for even talking about toy Nerf or bubble guns at school. Too far? Well whose idea was that? Maybe you approve because you allowed your own thoughts to be molded by the news of Sandy Hook and other recent shootings? Again, one fount of information, one side to the story. But which side is America getting from their televisions?
And where do mass animal deaths fit into all this?
In early 2012, t.v. news reported on a few cases of sudden mass animal deaths, such as the 200 blackbirds that fell on Beebe, Arkansas on January 1. Remember that? Are you aware that the official story changed numerous times? First the "officials" told us that the flock died of blunt force trauma from running into a building. But that was obviously a lie, since the flock was not found in a pile at the foot of a building. They fell over a large area. Later the story became that someone went up to a roost and set off fireworks on New Year's Eve, killing many. But that is also obviously a lie, since there were no birds scorched and they didn't fall dead at the roost, they fell out of midair, at one time, while in flight. But the story changed, and people, performing an acrobatic feat of "doublethink", forgot the first story.
They also reported dead fish in California.
I believe there were a few others that made the t.v. news. So what else is news? Who cares now, right? A few phenomena that we had explained to us by the professionals who give us "coverage". I seem to recall that when a mass of fish died on the Eastern Sea Board they explained that the water got too warm for the fish and blamed global climate change.
Wait! The sea water in January developed a pocket of water too warm for fish to swim in and then cooled off again? This is the part where alarms and whistles should be sounding in our heads! After all, if what they failed to explain to us were true: HOW?! I myself do not believe such a fabulous story. And why should I? I already know not to trust the news casters, I know that such a phenomena should be impossible, and I also searched and discovered that there were popping up too many similar happenings to be explained away in this manner.
For the first three months of 2012, I tracked down story after story of mass animal deaths happening every day, all over the world. I looked for historical records (from previous contemporary years) to see if this was normal. It isn't, of course. Flocks of birds and tons of fish don't just suddenly fall dead together on a regular basis under normal circumstances. It was happening in China and Japan, Australia and New Zealand, India and Africa, South America, Canada, Scotland, Norway, Kazakhstan, to name only the locations I can immediately recall; and it wasn't just fish and birds. Dolphins, whales, sea turtles, crab and krill were washing up on shores en masse. There were cattle, sheep, even wild herds of beasts that were suddenly dying in great numbers for totally mysterious reasons, and I have not yet mentioned the mass extinction of bats and the bees by the many millions, about which I hope you have heard. And yet, in spite of all this, I too eventually got distracted and, in bitter truth, became just as disinterested as everyone else. There always seems to be too many more important everyday things going on in our lives to pay attention to the signs of our times.
However, the disturbing mass deaths did not go away simply because the television priesthood ceased telling us and we lost interest. It continued day by day throughout the entire year. At least 413 such events as of November, and most probably much more, since I cannot find many of the stories I remember currently listed by the watchful. And the die offs are continuing to this very day, with 70 known events in 30 countries in 2013. Numerous whale, dolphin, and porpoise deaths were reported in Ireland just yesterday. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2013/0208/1224329791459.html
Why am I not hearing about a story on television examining all of these deaths? Why is there no investigation? Why are the news people quietly treating all of these events as isolated incidences on local levels?
I will grant you that a school of fish washing up on some remote beach across the globe does not strike me with quite the same importance as the debate over whether America should return to obeying the law of the land and respecting the natural rights of man, as enumerated in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. But take all these events together - such as the fact that bees should now be put on the endangered list in North America, and we happen to need these creatures a great deal - and remember our key verses at top of this article, and suddenly it doesn't seem such an inconsequential thing after all. Perhaps it is a sign of our times. And perhaps we are missing many more such signs, by polluting our minds with the lies, the distractions, and the conditioning of our enemy, Satan, and his workers in the world.
And by all means, don't take it from your friend. Go and see.
